Individual Therapy That Works
Built from queer survival into a method that works.
Therapy for people who are done with polite nodding, endless processing, and rooms that never actually change anything.

— STUCK, DESPITE UNDERSTANDING IT
You're not stuck because you don't understand it.
You understand the pattern. You can name what is happening. You know where it comes from. And you still cannot interrupt it.
The anxiety loops. The relationship conflicts repeat. The overthinking never lands on clarity. The burnout returns no matter how much you adjust.
You have tried therapy before. Someone listened. Someone validated your insight. Someone taught you breathing exercises as if awareness was the missing piece.
It was not.
You left feeling heard but not changed. You are done with therapy that keeps you company while you stay stuck.
This can change.
— THE DIFFERENCE
Insight With Teeth
Queer Talk Therapy was built because the therapy Troy needed when he needed it most did not exist.
Too many rooms were polite but useless. Too much benevolent listening that went nowhere. Too much affirmation without interruption.
This is not that.
This is not soft-focus reassurance. It is not therapy that nods along while you spin in circles. It is not endless processing for the sake of feeling emotionally productive.
At Queer Talk Therapy, individual therapy in Chicago is built to deliver clarity you can act on.
Troy calls it out when avoidance takes over. He helps you name the pattern underneath the chaos. He hands you language sharp enough to cut through the static.
Clients leave lighter, not because they vented, but because something actually shifted.
Because the stuck part moved.
No more benevolent listening that goes nowhere.
"Troy, You’re the first person in the mental health field to listen to me and help. After 26 years of dismissal, I finally feel my life is my own."

— THE METHOD
Built From Queer Survival
Queer experience is not a niche here. It is methodology.
Queer people have been doing hard psychological work without permission, without maps, and without institutional support for generations.
We learned how to dismantle inherited scripts. How to survive hostile systems. How to claim identities the world said did not exist.
That is not theory.
That is method.
If you are queer, trans, bi, or questioning, you will not have to teach Troy the basics.
If you are straight and cis but want therapy that questions dominant norms instead of adjusting you to fit them, you belong here too.
What matters is not identity purity. It is your willingness to do real work.
And if queer people can do that level of transformation under those conditions, so can you.
Queer experience isn't the credential.
It's the training ground.
The method works because it was built under pressure.
“Therapy finally feels useful. Clear, direct, and actually moving me forward.”

— THERAPY AT QUEER TALK
How the work happens.
The Right Tool for the Real Problem
At Queer Talk Therapy, treatment is built around what actually moves people forward.
You Do Not Need To Keep Carrying This Alone
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy when we need precision around thought patterns and behavior loops. When anxiety has you rehearsing worst-case scenarios on a loop, we map the thought pattern and interrupt it with evidence.
Narrative Therapy when we are dismantling inherited scripts from family, religion, or culture. When family scripts tell you who you should be, we dismantle them and build language for who you actually are.
Motivational Interviewing when ambivalence has turned into paralysis. When you are stuck between staying and leaving, we clarify what you actually want underneath the guilt.
Schema work when childhood roles still run your adult life. When the over-functioner, the peacekeeper, or the one who always adjusts shows up in every relationship, we break the pattern at the root.
WHO THIS FITS
People Ready for Transformation
If you see yourself here, this is the work.
Culturally Curious Professionals
People tired of conformity as treatment. You want critique, not compliance. You are straight and cis but tired of therapy that treats that as the only valid way to live.
Restless Explorers
Burnout, compulsive patterns, restless relationships, repeating cycles. Ready to understand the structure underneath the chaos. You know the pattern. You cannot interrupt it. Let’s see the structure underneath.
Boundary Rebuilders
Ex-fundamentalist, over-functioners, eldest-child energy. Learning to stop carrying what was never yours. Learning to say no without guilt scripts from childhood kicking in.
Identity Integrators
Queer, trans, bi, questioning, ENM-curious. Building a life that actually matches who you are. Navigating coming out, transition, or relationship structures the world does not have a script for.

Questions people ask before starting.
Do I have to be queer to work with you?
No. This practice is queer-centered, not queer-exclusive. Queer is the lens, not the limit. If you want therapy that questions systems instead of forcing you back into them, this can fit.
Is therapy in person or online?
Most sessions are held in person at our Chicago Loop office, 307 N. Michigan Ave, Suite 824. The first consultation is a free 30-minute video call.
Telehealth in Illinois is available on a limited basis depending on the clinician, including a Spanish-speaking option starting in late May.
Do you have more than one therapist?
Yes. Queer Talk Therapy is growing with clinicians who reflect the community and the complexity of the lives we work with. Our team includes bilingual Spanish-speaking support and offers both in-person therapy in the Chicago Loop and telehealth across Illinois, depending on the clinician.
Do you offer sliding scale or different fee options?
Yes. Session fees vary depending on the clinician, with a range of options to support different needs and levels of access. The goal is to offer flexibility without diluting the work.
What if therapy did not work before?
Most people here have tried therapy before. Usually the problem was not therapy, it was bad therapy. Polite, vague, too careful. This work is built for people who are done with that.
What insurance do you accept?
BCBS, Aetna, and United PPO are accepted.
Will there be a dog in the office?
Sometimes. Betty, the office dog, may be present during sessions. She is friendly, calm, and a quiet part of the space for many clients. If you prefer a dog-free session, she can stay home. Just let us know what works best for you.
